Study Finds That Acupressure Can Relieve Breast Cancer Fatigue

acupressure

A new study has found that acupressure can help relieve fatigue in women caused by breast cancer. Acupressure, like acupuncture, is an alternative treatment originating from traditional Chinese medicine. The treatment involves placing physical pressure on key points of the body. Numerous studies have demonstrated that acupressure can provide a therapeutic effect in a variety of ailments.

In the case of breast cancer, fatigue is a common symptom that can exist long after treatment. In fact, more than 90% of cancer patients undergoing treatment report considerable fatigue.

In the study, 424 breast cancer survivors received acupressure treatment every day for 6 weeks. At the end of treatment, about 66% of women experienced complete relief of fatigue while the remaining women reduced the severity of their fatigue by about 30%.

Natural Treatment for Chronic Fatigue

Fatigue isn’t just common in cancer patients. It’s a symptom that occurs in a wide variety of illnesses and diseases. While this study was limited to breast cancer survivors, the overall therapeutic potential of acupressure in fatigue treatment is clear.

This is not to say that acupressure should be used as the sole treatment in fatigue. Rather, it can serve as a useful adjunct in a treatment plan prescribed by your chronic fatigue doctor.
