At our health and wellness clinics in Cincinnati and New York, we offer stem cell therapy for knees, backs, necks, and other areas of injury. One question we’re frequently asked is this: How long do stem cell injections last?

That’s a difficult question to answer, as results can vary and the science for stem cell therapy is in its early stages. Currently, only research on bone marrow stem cells is thorough enough to offer a reliable answer. We will hopefully have a better idea of fat based stem cell treatments in a few years. We have a long way to go before we know the long lasting effectiveness of stem cell injections from amniotic/umbilical cord products and exosomes.

What is Stem Cell Therapy?

Stem cells are the natural building blocks of the body. They are an immature, basic cell that has yet to develop into a muscle cell, organ cell, or nerve cell. Because they are so early in development, stem cells provide a blueprint for healing and can transform into many different types of cells in the body. In your body they signal your own cells to recover and restore. They can be derived from your own tissue, from umbilical cord donations, and from pregnant mothers. No fetuses are harmed in any way through the procurement of the stem cells we use.

Known as regenerative medicine, stem cell therapy can boost the body’s natural ability to heal and address a number of ailments without the use of invasive surgery. There is evidence that they trigger damaged tissues in the body to naturally repair themselves.

The Different Types of Stem Cells Used in Therapy

Stem cells can be derived from a number of tissues.

Stem cells can be derived from bone marrow concentrate where we take bone marrow aspirate and centrifuge it to concentrate the stem cell fraction. This is a process known as BMC or BMAC (Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate).

Stem cells can also be derived from fat — a process known as Lipogems.

At our health and wellness centers in Cincinnati and New York, we harvest the majority of our stem cells from amniotic or umbilical cord cells and tissue. We can also add exosomes to your treatment.
How Long Do Stem Cells Last?

Results can vary, but the benefits of stem cell therapy can last several years. This is considerably more than can be expected from physical therapy which tends to only be a few months. About 66% of patients tend to experience benefits from stem cell therapy 5 to 7 years after treatment.

How Much Does Stem Cell Therapy Cost?

Stem cell therapy has made several encouraging advances over the last several years. And there is high demand. But the cost of the procedure can be expensive, depending on the amount of treatment required. Even simple stem cell injections can cost $1,000. More advanced treatments can cost as much as $100,000. Most treatments cost anywhere from $5,000 to $12,000.
